Culvert and Eurasian watermilfoil update
I traveled through the culvert this past week, and the path is clear where to drive. Some milfoil remains; however, it appears that the dive team removed most of the Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) in that area.
With Labor Day weekend approaching and fall close behind, we decided not to complete an EWM pull this year. EWM plants break off easily later in the season, and we do not want fragments to potentially replant elsewhere in the lake.
We have secured Onterra to complete a point-intercept study in July 2027. This will give us a reliable measurement of the percentage of EWM in Soo Lake. Completing a pull now could give us a less accurate snapshot next summer.
Labor Day weekend bake sale
Our bake sale is this Sunday, September 6, at Soo Lake Resort. Donated baked goods may be dropped off around 1:00 p.m., and the sale begins at 2:00 p.m. All proceeds will support the Wounded Warriors and help fund Camp Hackett. Their large fundraiser, featuring many prizes, will take place at the resort the same day.
Last year, the bake sale raised $600 for the camp. If you have questions or would like to contribute, please contact Darlene Kunze or me.
September meeting and roadside cleanup
Our next association meeting is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, at Crane Chase. After the meeting, we will complete our annual roadside cleanup beginning at The Rocks, formerly Corner Connection.
